Aspen Farms, a premier three-day eventing training facility in Yelm, WA, is currently hiring for our working student position. We are seeking a self-motivated, hardworking equestrian. Position is six days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. most days. There is plenty of riding on nice horses and the opportunity to have lessons on a schoolmaster.
Being a working student is a valuable learning experience not only for improving your riding skills, but also for learning what it takes on a daily basis to be competitive at the higher levels. Our working students learn about fitness programs as well as proper turn out and care of the horses for everyday riding and for shows. Our working students also have the opportunity to ride and learn from upper level event horses. You and your horse will improve dramatically from 4-5 lessons a week with Jonathan and/or Suzy Elliott and from being in a goal-orientated program.
As a working student, you will be expected to do stalls, feeding, blanketing, turn out, tack cleaning, and grooming on a daily basis. Most days there will be trot or hack sets to be done aboard Aspen Farms; horses as well as tacking them up and cooling them down. At shows working students are given ample time to get themselves ready to compete with their own horse, but working students are also expected to groom and take care of Aspen Farms’ horses. Working students are expected to be as neat, tidy, and organized as possible as a representative of Aspen Farms.
